Spring Mini Sessions with Andria Fontenot Photography: A Look Back and Looking Forward
The sound of children's laughter, the warmth of spring sunshine, the wooden dock overlooking the pond, the beautiful flowers, and the tiny hands gently petting soft bunny fur, these are the memories I love the most about spring portraits! As I look through these joyful photos and prepare for this year's spring sessions in Pineville, LA. I can't help but smile at all the beautiful moments we captured. I'm excited to share some highlights and let you know about the few remaining spots we have available for spring 2025 at Andria Fontenot Photography.
Last Year's Spring Magic
Each family brought their own unique energy, but there was one constant: those genuine expressions when the bunnies made their appearance! From excited squeals to cautious curiosity to complete wonder – capturing those authentic reactions is why I love these sessions so much.
Looking back at last year's sessions fills my heart with so much joy. Each session produced a gallery of beautiful images that families will cherish for years to come. Making the Most of Your Mini Session: Tips for Clients
To ensure you get the most magical photos from your brief time slot, here are some tried-and-true tips:
Arrive 10 minutes early. This gives little ones time to get comfortable with the environment before the camera comes out.
Coordinate outfits, but don't match exactly. Complementary colors work wonderfully for spring - think pastels, light neutrals, and soft patterns that won't compete with the setting.
Make sure everyone is fed and happy. Hungry children (and adults!) don't photograph well. A well-timed snack before the session works wonders for everyone's mood.
Don't forget oral hygiene! This might sound funny, but I can't tell you how many times parents have thanked me for this reminder. Make sure everyone flosses brushes their teeth before the session—yes, even those eye-rolling teenagers! Nothing ruins a beautiful family photo like food stuck in teeth.
Prepare your children. Let them know they'll be meeting some gentle bunnies. Build excitement rather than surprise, especially for younger kids who might be cautious around animals.
Don't stress about "perfect" poses. The most cherished images are often the candid ones where your child's personality shines through.
Trust the process. Even if your child seems uncooperative, I'm capturing moments you don't even realize are happening. Some of my best shots come during what parents perceive as "difficult" moments!
For My Fellow Photographers: Running Successful Mini Sessions
After years of refining my mini session approach, I've learned some valuable lessons I'm happy to share with other photographers:
Schedule buffer time. I always add 5-10 minutes between sessions to account for families arriving late or children needing extra time to warm up.
Use a Booking System Like Acuity Having clients book, pay, and sign contracts all in one place saves so much time and hassle. I use Acuity to set time slots, collect payments upfront, and send automated reminders. It keeps everything organized and eliminates back-and-forth emails. Total game changer.
Set clear expectations. From the booking process through the session itself, make sure clients understand exactly what they're getting - number of images, session length, and delivery timeline.
Create a detailed shot list. With only 25 minutes, having a mental checklist ensures you capture all the essential shots while still allowing for spontaneous moments.
Simplify your set. An overly complicated backdrop can compete with your subjects. I've found that clean, simple spring setups photograph best and keep the focus on the children and bunnies.
Have an assistant when working with animals. My assistant helps manage the bunnies while I focus on photography, making the experience smoother for everyone.
Perfect your workflow. After the sessions, having an efficient editing process is crucial when delivering multiple galleries in a short timeframe.
Consider the time of day carefully. I schedule all my spring minis during golden hour when possible, or find a location with consistent, flattering light throughout the day.
Have a rain plan. Spring weather can be unpredictable - always have a backup date or covered location option.
